TReatment Of Posthemmoragic HYdrocephalus – TROPHY Registry

  • Principal Investigator (PI): Ulrich-Wilhelm Thomale
  • Description: Intraventricular hemorrhage in premature babies and newborns is causing a relevant rate of long term developmental morbidity. Possible causative factors are primary brain damage, blood degradation, hydrocephalus and treatment-associated complications as risk factors. The neurosurgical treatment strategy in the early phase of posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus remains a challenge due to the patient’s low body weight and protein polluted CSF. A consistent guideline of surgical treatment is still missing.
Under the auspices of the International Federation of Neuroendoscopy (IFNE) the TReatment Of Posthemmoragic HYdrocephalus – TROPHY Registry is designed to acquire a prospective data collection on an international basis for post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus in neonates. A synchronized data set for different possible treatment strategies such as external ventricular drainage (EVD), ventricular access device (VAD), ventricular subgaleal shunt (VSGS), and neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL) is collected to investigate possible complications, shunt dependency and long term developmental outcome.
